    Description

Listed is an original WW2 first version Inland Paratrooper helmet liner.  When I acquired this liner all the 'A' washers were covered with rust and clearly shows that the rust leaked into the fabric of the support straps.  With a dental pick and plenty of rust remover solution I managed to clean most of the rust off; however, there is very little I could do about the fabric rust stains. Humidity has also worked to cause very minor "bubbling" on the exterior and interior of the liner. Except for the rust the liner appears very little used.  It simply appears that the liner saw little or no use but was stored in a very damp environment which caused the rust and bubbling problems seen. The major problem is a tear in the sweatband support fabric that butts against the rear left side 'A' washer.  There is only about 1/4 inch of un-torn fabric left which made me very hesitant about re-installing a sweatband, so I have kept it off.  Perhaps a fabric type glue may be able to keep the ends together.  If the new owner should decide to re-install the included sweatband, he should do so with extreme caution.  The sweatband is the early double wire type with the maker's initials being L.F.I..  The chinstrap is the very early straight edge buckle type.  The paratrooper chincup is an item I acquired a long while ago as an original WW2 item.  It is included of course to complete the liner but I am not 100% sure that it is original as the cup seems a little deep - but I am no expert.  Also included with this liner is a Paratrooper fabricated M2 helmet.  The helmet is a genuine McCord early front seem, stainless rim that has been fabricated to look like an M2 with added 'D' bales in place of its' original rectangle fixed bales.  It has officer and unit markings applied and all-in-all it is one of the better fabricated Airborne M2s that are around and would work very well for display purposes until the new owner can acquire an original.
