HISTORICAL NOTE:
The M-1936 belt, webbed gear, and suspenders formed the basic support system for every soldier in the U.S. Army and all of the Marines during WWII.
Every soldier or Marine had web gear, in the form of cartridge and pistol belts, suspenders, bags, pouches and packs.
Prior to World War II all U.S. web gear issued to Army units was in Olive Drab #3, commonly but unofficially referred to as "khaki". Although today, WWII equipment is occasionally referred to by some collectors or re-enactors as being a tan/sand color, Olive Drab #9 only appeared during World War I. This tan/sand color (again Not the current Olive Drab #3) was used not only for webbing, but for uniforms, tents, truck tarps and other miscellaneous equipment. There were many exceptions, of course, in the vast array of Army procurement, but generally the color during WWI was a tan/sand color.
This pre-World War II equipment was still in inventory when World War II started for the United States in December 1941 and it continued to be produced in some form until at least 1943. U.S. Army inventory had examples of the web gear
with date stamps in the 1940s that appeared to be more of a tan color. But a new color was introduced at the start of World War II: Olive Drab #3, the light greenish shade of the basic U.S. Army web gear. In 1943 the color was again changed and all new equipment was introduced, as well as clothing, in the darker shade known as Olive Drab #7.
The U.S. military was very slow and uneven in the introduction of these color changes and the equipment updates that accompanied these changes. Late in World War II it was possible to find groups of U.S. Army troops equipped with all of the new gear in OD #7, with other soldiers from the same unit being in the older OD #3 gear... and other random examples of troops with mixed gear which was probably a result of wartime supply irregularities. Manufacturing was also uneven with supplies of old fabrics being used before new available fabric was utilized. In some cases transitional items can still be found with multiple colors of fabric used on the same gear. It is important to remember that this was wartime production, and there was little concern about color matching of equipment or uniforms.
PLEASE NOTE: THE CLOTHING STAND, U.S. ARMY PARATROOPER M-42 JUMP UNIFORM JACKET (WITH A VARIETY OF ITEMS EITHER IN THE JACKET POCKET OR ATTACHED TO THE LANYARD FROM THE EPAULETE), OR THE M-2 "D" LOOP HELMET ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE WEB GEAR CONFIGURED FOR THIS SALE

and many of the historical locations, and museums in an around Normandy and the area near Brecourt Manor site of Lieutenant Richard 'Dick' Winters and elements of Easy Company 506th P.I.R. attack on the German field artillery,
we have also used the same format on several occasions, including our recent October 2019 trip, to visit the Bastogne area, including the Baugnez '44 Museum (located near the site of the Malmedy Massacre), The December 44 Museum in La Gleize, Muse'e de la Bataille in La Roche-en-Ardenne, The Bastogne War Museum in Bastogne, The 101st Airborne Museum in Bastogne, the still existing foxholes of the 502nd and 506th P.I.R. and the pastoral surrounding areas in Belgium. We have found both the French and the Belgian people, especially in the towns in Normandy and the area in and around Bastogne, to be very friendly and still grateful to the Allies, especially the American forces, for their liberation… despite the huge loss of life and property damage suffered by the French and Belgian civilians. In addition, should you plan to visit the area in and around Normandy or Bastogne, we would be willing to share our experiences or trip itinerary with you, which may help to make your travel through the area easier and perhaps make the historical experience more valuable.
