    Venus Flower Basket
    any of several sponges of the genus Euplectella glass sponges. The name Venus flower basket derives from the sponge's delicate, white, lattice like skeleton made of silica. In the living animal the skeleton is covered with a thin layer of cells. they are found in a small area of the sea near the Philippine islands. Similar species occur near Japan and others in the Indian ocean and Pacific ocean. The Venus flower basket is a prized curio, in Japan it is regarded as a symbol of eternal love and given as a wedding gift.
